FAMILY SATURDAY WORKSHOP: SIMON PERITON PAPER CUTOUTS

05/02/2015

The Dikeou Collection continues the Family Saturday Workshop series on May 2 from 12:00 to 4:00pm, with a brief tour of the collection given at 2:00pm. This month’s workshop will focus on British artist Simon Periton’s paper cutouts as featured at the Dikeou Collection and in zingmagazine.

Known as “the punkish maestro of the scalpel,” Simon Periton’s “Barbed Wire Target I” and “Radiant Anarchy Doily” follow a long, international tradition of paper cutting. The circular shape of these cutouts reference pop culture icons, and the bright, contrasting colors point to the various and sometimes conflicting meanings these icons posses. Periton’s cutouts also appear in issue 12 of zingmagazine and further reveal his intricate cutting abilities and how color influences these images in surprising ways.

Participants will create their own cutout designs with colored paper and cutting tools that are safe and easy for children of all ages to use. This workshop is free to attend and no RSVP is required. Light refreshments will be provided.
