DIKEOU LITERARY SERIES: ANISAH ALI-HENDERSON, TONI OSWALD, CURTIS ROMERO, AND MCCORMICK TEMPLEMAN

The Dikeou Collection presents the twenty first installment of the Dikeou Literary Series on Thursday, March 30, at 7:00pm, which will take place at Dikeou Pop-Up: Colfax, 312 E. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80203. Please join us for readings by Anisah Ali-Henderson, Toni Oswald, Curtis Romero, and McCormick Templeman. This event is free and open to the public.

Anisah Ali-Henderson was born in Denver, colorado where she currently lives. she is a student at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado and is obtaining her MFA in Creative Writing and Poetics. She obtained her BA in english literature and minored in ethnic studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She self-published her first book, Anonymous, in august of 2016. Anisah’s writing explores generational trauma and learning how to write within and to her prescribed traumas. Currently, she is working on a triology, (tentatively titled black coffee) where she will examine the ways in which the black male body exists, operates and functions within the constructs, constraints, and/or traumas of black love. She wants to examine the ways masculinity can interfere with the experience of a black male body fully experiencing being loved and being loving. She also wants to examine the ways this construct of black masculinity interferes with the black female’s experience with being loved and loving. When she isn’t writing or doing research, she is indulging in photography lessons to amp her skills for a poetic coffee table book. She enjoys traveling and creating memories with her husband and family, taking naps, and binge watching television shows on Netflix.

Toni Oswald is a performer, filmmaker, visual artist, musician and writer who currently lives in Boulder, Colorado with her partner Max Davies and their cat Kiki Pamplemousse Fontaine. Her work has been shown in Los Angeles, Amsterdam and New York. She has performed across the United States and Europe with the punk rock, performance-art theater group Theater Carnivale, as well as with musicians and performers such as Anne Waldman, John Frusciante, Max Davies, Ambrose Bye, Johanna Went, Thurston Moore, Josh Klinghoffer, Cecilia Vicuña, River Phoenix, and Stephen Holman among them, and is currently working on a novel about a fourteen-year-old girl clown set in the 1950’s, entitled LONESOME IN A FALSE WORLD. You can also find her musical alter ego, The Diary of Ic Explura, on Bandcamp.

Curtis Romero is a writer and performer living in Denver. His poetry chapbook, HARVEST, will be published later in 2017, and his full-length collection, THE GREEN CHILD, will be forthcoming as soon as he finishes it. He has a BA in Poetry from the University of Colorado, and an MFA in Writing & Poetics from Naropa University. He is also writing a comic book.

McCormick Templeman is the author of THE LITTLE WOODS (Random House, 2012) and THE GLASS CASKET (Penguin Random House, 2014). Her writing has been anthologized in SLASHER GIRLS AND MONSTER BOYS (Dial, 2015), and has appeared in CJOM and THE LOS ANGELES REVIEW OF BOOKS. She is a first year PhD student at the University of Denver.

The Dikeou Literary Series is currently organized by Mairead Case. Case is a working writer in Colorado, where she is also a PhD student at the University of Denver and the Summer Writing Program Coordinator at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics. Mairead teaches fiction, poetry, and poetics at DU, Naropa University, and the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility. She is the author of the novel See You In the Morning and Tenderness, a poetry chapbook.
