The Dikeou Collection, in partnership with Black Cube, is pleased to present a public lecture by New York-based art critic Ben Davis on the subject of “Art and Class.” This event is free and open to the public, and will take place at Dikeou Collection, 1615 California St, Suite 515, on Thursday May 12. Doors open at 6:30pm with lecture beginning at 7pm.
Known for his engaging and accessible criticism, Davis will address how looking at class can help understand how the art world functions, and how to reach beyond it. He is the author of the book 9.5 Theses on Art and Class (Haymarket, 2013) as well as numerous essays on contemporary art that have appeared in such publications as Art Papers, Frieze, New York, Slate.com, and the Village Voice. He is currently the National Art Critic for artnet News and critic-in-residence at Montclair State University, New Jersey.
Black Cube is a nonprofit, experimental art museum that operates nomadically. Without the traditional boundaries of a physical building, Black Cube exists primarily through partnering with our artist fellows to commission popup art experiences. At Black Cube, we see ourselves as an unconventional museum pursuing the most effective ways to engage audiences while supporting individual artists with critical professional guidance.
