In conjunction with the exhibition Constructed Histories at David B Smith Gallery, The Dikeou Collection is pleased to welcome New York-based artist, Jeremy Dean, to present his critically acclaimed feature length documentary, Dare Not Walk Alone. This event begins at 7pm, is free and open to the public and will take place at the Dikeou Collection, 1615 California St, Suite 515. The film will begin at 7:30pm (80min) and will be followed by a discussion with Jeremy Dean and William Morrow, Curator of Constructed Histories. Seating is limited.
Since it’s debut in 2007, Dare Not Walk Alone has been shown in theaters, festivals, and art venues across the country. The film explores an untold chapter of the Civil Rights movement in St. Augustine, FL and its aftermath forty years later. Five years in the making, DNWA offers an insight into the artist’s engagement with the various socioeconomic and political challenges that have been at the crux of his visual art practice over the last decade. Critics have called the film a “powerful slice of roiling American history” (The Los Angeles Times), and, “more than just another civil-rights history lesson” (Film Journal).
