The Dikeou Collection is pleased to announce the acquisition of work by Justin Goldwater. An opening reception will be held at the Dikeou Collection Pop-Up Space, 1331 Bannock Street, Denver, Colorado 80204, on Friday, May 17, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. This event is free to attend and open to the public. Light refreshments along with crisp cuts from our Vinyl Archive will set the backdrop for the night.
A founding member of Austin-based Okay Mountain, Justin Goldwater now calls Eagle Rock North East Los Angeles home. His drawings and sculptures are witty attempts at visual humor, fragments of loose narrative and bungled chunks of autobiography, which strive to distort the moments of normalcy we often encounter in our daily lives. In his sculpture, “Troll,” we are provoked by a set of eyeballs poking out from underneath a manhole cover, a spontaneous detour to the normalcy of viewing artwork on freshly painted white walls. Goldwater describes his creation as “a dumb version of Loki or the trickster Coyote, but who just stays underground and peeps like a little suburban internet troll. He’s always there whether you like it or not, creepin’, but he’s not really harmful – to spite his best efforts to make you feel uncomfortable, if he’s spotted he just makes you laugh.”
