The Dikeou Collection presents the eighteenth installment of the Fresh Jazz and Crisp Vinyl Series on Thursday, December 8, with a special live performance by the Annie Booth Trio in celebration of their seasonal release, Festive!. Erik Troe from KUVO jazz radio will open and close the evening with a DJ set composed of albums from the Dikeou Collection’s vinyl archive. This event is free and open to the public and will take place at Dikeou Pop-Up: Colfax, 312 E Colfax Ave, from 7-10pm. Light refreshments will be provided.
Annie Booth, a native of Denver, is an award-winning pianist, composer and educator. After receiving her education at the University of Colorado-Boulder (BM in jazz studies) in 2011, she has been an active force on the Denver jazz scene as both a leader of her own group (the Annie Booth Trio) and as a busy sideman. Annie has performed internationally, most recently being a tour of Mexico with the Greg Gisbert Quartet in the summer of 2016 as part of the “New York Jazz All-Stars Series”. She has twice been named “Best in Denver” in the jazz genre by Denver’s Westword magazine in 2015 and 2016 and was featured as part of Jazz 89.3 KUVO’s “30-under-30” highlight. Annie released her debut album, Wanderlust, in 2014 to much acclaim and a Christmas album, Festive!, in mid-November 2016. Erik Troe is a regular host on the internationally-acclaimed, Denver-based jazz radio station, Jazz 89.3 KUVO. Although Erik was born in LaGrange, IL (just like John A. Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet), he’s been a Denverite since 1981. Erik’s father, a trumpeter, introduced him to the sound of jazz via his collection of Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie and Maynard Ferguson records. Erik’s association with KUVO began in the summer of 2002. Erik said, “I came [to KUVO] thinking I had something of a solid background in jazz, but boy, was I humbled by the encyclopedic knowledge of Ed Danielson, Rodney Franks, Carlos Lando and others on staff.” As host of the two-hour weekday program, the Jazz Caravan, Erik enjoys filling in the gaps of his own musical education – an ongoing process, of course – and sharing his passion for music with Denverites and jazz listeners the world over
The Fresh Jazz and Crisp Vinyl Series focuses on jazz musicians living and working today, whose names are not yet embossed into history, but whose energy, wisdom, well-worn instruments, and presence in the jazz scene are further defining our admiration for the life form, Jazz music. Selections from the vinyl archive will thus serve as a remembrance to all the jazz greats who came before the jazz musicians invited to play at this bi-monthly series.
