Josh Trinidad is an accomplished trumpet player who was born and raised in Colorado and hasĀ performed and recorded with musicians like Sage Francis and Wheelchair Sports Camp. While proficient in various styles, jazz is at the core of his musical influence. He studied music and education at The University of Colorado, Boulder, and currently runs the Jazz Odyssey program on KUVO 89.3 FM. Drummer Gordon Koch also studied jazz at CU-Boulder for six years, and tours nationally and releases albums with the Denver hardcore/metal act Call of the Void on Relapse Records. Pianist AJ Salas is a session musician in the Denver Soul/Funk/electro scene playing in The Hypertextuals with Venus Cruz and DJ Check One and other sessions with Cory Baker. He has shared the stage with Stanley Turrentine and Ike Turner, and has performed live on FM 103.5 the Fox’s Radio show Strictly Blues. The musically diverse trio will perform an improvised set of triphop/metal/fusion influenced free jazz.
The ‘Fresh Jazz and Crisp Vinyl Series’ focuses on jazz musicians living and working today, whose names are not yet embossed into history, but whose energy, wisdom, well worn instruments, and presence in the jazz scene are further defining our admiration for this life form called Jazz music. Selections from the vinyl archive will thus serve as a remembrance to all the jazz greats who came before the jazz musicians invited to play at this bi-monthly series.
