FAMILY SATURDAY WORKSHOP: VIK MUNIZ

09/03/2016

Vik Muniz was born in São Paulo, Brazil but currently works in both New York City and Rio de Janeiro. His “Milan (Last Supper)” at Dikeou Collection is a recreation of Leonardo da Vinci’s world-renowned masterpiece “The Last Supper,” which he made entirely out of chocolate syrup, photographed, and then licked away. This work is the first of Muniz’ famous Pictures of Chocolate series. Muniz utilizes many different nontraditional materials to create his art, from food, scrap metal, and garbage, to old toys, dust, and diamonds.

For this workshop, participants will create their own “nontraditional masterpiece.” A line drawing of a famous work of art will provide the basis of the image, which will be filled in with your choice of a variety of unique materials and then photographed and printed to take home.

The Dikeou Collection’s Family Saturday Workshops are a great way for people of all ages to learn more about contemporary art and experiment with new creative processes. Workshops include a tutorial and presentation of the artwork highlighted that month.
