The Dikeou Collection continues the Family Saturday Workshop series on June 6 from 12:00 to 4:00pm, with a brief tour of the collection given at 2:00pm. This workshop will focus on artist Serge Onnen’s animations as featured at the Dikeou Collection, and will be held at the Dikeou Collection, 1615 California St, Suite 515. The workshop is free to attend, and materials as well as light refreshments will be provided.
Drawing, as a medium and as a concept, is central to Serge Onnen’s artistic practice. His Silence Fence wallpaper shows how the power of drawing can be enhanced through repetition, and his animation Break demonstrates how that power through repetition can be pushed further with movement. Onnen’s simple, hand-drawn animations fuse repetitious imagery and movement in such a way to create scenarios that lack a distinct beginning or ending.
For this workshop, participants will brainstorm an idea for a short animation that begins and ends the same way, which will be sketched on individual pieces of paper. Each sketch is then photographed and compiled into an animation using computer software. This workshop takes approximately 1.5 hours to complete.
The Dikeou Collection’s Family Saturday Workshops are a great way for people of all ages to learn more about contemporary art and experiment with new creative processes. Workshops include a tutorial and presentation of the artwork highlighted that month.
