The Dikeou Collection will host the first installment of the Family Saturday Workshop 2014 Series on Saturday, June 7 from 12:00 to 4:00pm. This month’s workshop will focus on artist Luis Macias and his series of prints titled “A Fine Monday Morning” (2000), which will serve as the inspiration for this month’s workshop.
Macias’ “A Fine Monday Morning” is a set of twelve lithographs that combine text and images in a manner similar to that of the Surrealist artists from the mid-20th century. By coupling seemingly unrelated phrases and illustrations, Macias is able to create a world that is free from the rules of logic, and imagination has no bounds. Workshop participants will create storyboard collages that explore the techniques used by Macias and the Surrealists, which allow for free form, uninhibited creativity.
At 12:15 participants will receive a 15-minute guided tour of the collection, with a focus on Macias’ “A Fine Monday Morning.” The guided workshop will begin at 12:30 with materials provided by the collection. A second guided tour will begin at 2:00 with a guided workshop at 2:15.
This workshop is free to attend and no RSVP is required. Light refreshments will be provided.
