FAMILY SATURDAY WORKSHOP: JOSHUA ABELOW PATTERN & COLOR THEORY

05/07/2016

A combination of geometry, color, and symbols characterizes Joshua Abelow’s paintings. His Call Me Abstract series depicts his phone number painted in a repetitive pattern over a brown and yellow geometric background. For this workshop, participants will create their own mini-series of works on paper inspired by Abelow’s use of color, pattern, and symbols. The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to the color wheel to gain familiarity with basic color theory and how color can be used to affect pattern and shape in surprising ways. Participants will then create their own mini-series of works on paper utilizing geometric patterned backgrounds in various colors with common designs/symbols like numbers, letters, and other simple motifs painted on top.

The Dikeou Collection’s Family Saturday Workshops are a great way for people of all ages to learn more about contemporary art and experiment with new creative processes. Workshops include a tutorial and presentation of the artwork highlighted that month.
