FAMILY SATURDAY WORKSHOP: ANYA KIELAR

09/06/2014

The Dikeou Collection will host its final installment of the Family Saturday Workshop 2014 Series on Saturday, September 6th from 12:00 to 4:00pm. This month’s workshop will focus on New York artist Anya Kielar’s sand face assemblages.

The sand faces “draw upon such disparate sources as set design, surrealist collage, post-minimalist sculpture, and decorative arts” (Rachel Uffner Gallery). Kielar constructs her large sand faces by attaching found objects to masonite board. She then paints each part of the face in a different color and covers the paint with colored, sparkling sand to match the paint. For this project, participants will construct their own sand faces in a similar fashion utilizing found objects, paint, glittering sand, and masonite boards.

Drop in any time between 12:00 and 4:00 to participate in this workshop. 20-minute guided tours of the collection will be given at 12:15 and 2:00. This workshop is free to attend and no RSVP is required. Light refreshments will be provided.
