DUAL OPENING RECEPTION IN PARTNERSHIP WITH BLACK CUBE

10/22/2015

The Dikeou Collection is pleased to announce the installation of new artwork by Devon Dikeou, Rainer Ganahl, and Anicka Yi at Dikeou Pop-Up Colfax, 312 E Colfax Ave. A reception will be held on Thursday, October 22 from 6:00-9:00pm and will coincide with a partnership opening of Black Cube’s 2nd pop-up exhibition featuring the work of artist Chad Person in the Time Park parking lot on Grant St between Colfax and 14th St. DJ Deep Rawk Dave and DJ Beetlebum will be spinning records from our extensive Vinyl Archive, inside the Dikeou Pop-Up as well as outside in the the Time Park lot. This event is free and open to the pubic with light refreshments provided.

Dikeou Pop-Up: Colfax now has a newly reconditioned basement that maintains the grunge/DIY appearance of the defunct Jerry’s Record Exchange, and features the work of artists Devon Dikeou, Rainer Ganahl, and Anicka Yi. Dikeou’s Between the Acts (Virginia Woolf) is an installation of curtains as seen on famous late-night talk shows like Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. These replicas, which were originally exhibited at the 2014 NADA Art Fair in Miami Beach, calls attention to what goes on “behind the curtain” and references the comedic vision and personality of each host the curtain represents. Ganahl’s Hermès-Marx is a series of four vintage Hermès scarves screen printed with socialist text and symbols. It is a highly political work that questions value, means of production, and ownership. La Haine I-V by Yi consists of five turtleneck sweaters mounted on the wall with tempura-fried flowers placed in the neck. This work represents Yi’s interests in incorporating the senses of smell, touch, and taste into the visual art realm, and relating the body and its biological functions to sociopolitical ideologies.

Black Cube is a non-profit, experimental art museum that operates nomadically, founded in 2015 with Cortney Lane Stell as the Executive Director and Chief Curator. Prospector, by Black Cube artist fellow Chad Person, features a monumental inflatable sculpture designed specifically for its location across from the Colorado State Capital building in the Time Park parking lot. he 12-meter sculpture is a monochromatic blue, inspired by the Disney Toy Story 2 prospector, Stinky Pete. For Person, the character draws many references from Denver – from its gold mining history, to the speculation of current tech and real estate booms, and even the connection within the era of digital commerce.
