DIKEOU LITERARY SERIES: LUCY ROBERTS, MICHAEL SHEA LYNCH, TARA KNIGHT, SARAH ELIZABETH SCHANTZ  

The Dikeou Collection presents the twenty third installment of the Dikeou Literary Series on Thursday, July 6, at 7pm, which will take place at the Dikeou Collection, 1615 California St, Suite 515, Denver, CO 80202. Please join us for readings by Lucy Roberts, Michael Shea Lynch, Tara Knight, and Sarah Elizabeth Schantz. This event is free and open to the public.

LUCY ROBERTS is almost ten. She likes dogs and babies and she goes to Polaris at Ebert Elementary School.

MICHAEL SHEA LYNCH, known as Shea, or less commonly Shaeke Eigth, is a poet/writer/person from the grumpy, rainy state of New York and is a recent graduate of the Jack Kerouac School in Boulder. Someone once suggested they should be an optimist, and everyone in earshot lost their shit. They enjoy margaritas, long naps, and are always looking for someone to discuss calcio with.

TARA KNIGHT is a filmmaker, animator and media designer for live performance. Knight’s MIKUMENTARY REMIX is on a six-city North American tour with Hatsune Miku, the subject of this animated documentary. Knight has presented her Mikumentary series of films and lectures at the South By Southwest Interactive Festival, the Time Warner “The Future of Storytelling” Event in NYC, New York Comic Con and Anime Expo in LA. Episode 3: Participatory Culture was installed at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo as part of the 10th Anniversary Exhibition. Most recently, she has a co-authored a book chapter about Miku, exploring her live holographic concerts and a tension between bottom-up fan production as well as company-controlled media properties. Knight’s work as a projection designer for the La Jolla Playhouse’s premiere HOLLYWOOD as well as Diversionary Theater’s AMAZONS AND THEIR MEN received excellent reviews. Additionally, her most recent dance films are touring to festivals in Greece, Argentina, Helsinki and other international festivals. Two of her short films won 2014 Van Gogh Awards at the Amsterdam Film Festival in the categories of animation and world cinema. She is a founding member of Project Planetaria, an interdisciplinary project exploring the intersection of performance and astrophysics. THE FLOATING WORLD, a performance she co-created with Malashock Dance, won an Emmy in 2011. Knight began her career as an optical printing assistant, a painter on the films of animation pioneer Faith Hubley and as an animation assistant for Emily Hubley on her short films. She earned an MFA in Visual Art from the University of California, San Diego and a BA in Film Theory and Production from Hampshire College.

SARAH ELIZABETH SCHANTZ lives on the outskirts of Boulder, Colorado in an old farmhouse where she is surrounded by open sky and century-old cottonwoods. Her short fiction has appeared in journals such as THE LOS ANGELES REVIEW, MIDWESTERN GOTHIC, and THIRD COAST (among others) and she has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize twice. Her first novel, FIG, debuted from Simon & Schuster in 2015 and was selected by NPR as A Best Read of the Year before winning the 2016 Colorado Book Award. Schantz teaches creative writing and literature at Front Range Community College and runs her own seasonally inspired workshop series, (W)rites of Passage. She is currently hard at work on her second novel, ROADSIDE ALTARS, about a metalhead named Krystal who comes from a long line of women seers.

The Dikeou Literary Series is currently organized by Mairead Case. Case is a working writer in Colorado, where she is also a PhD student at the University of Denver and the Summer Writing Program Coordinator at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics. Mairead teaches fiction, poetry, and poetics at DU, Naropa University, and the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility. She is the author of the novel See You In the Morning and Tenderness, a poetry chapbook.
