Curator Statement
Simon is a great story teller, which is a hard talent . . . Verbally but even more as a visual or written realization . . . But Simon consumes the viewer with Jesus H Christ, who sucks us in with groovy pink and luscious silver, much less the spectacular twist on calligraphy, or is it penmanship? Both almost lost arts that are readily seen splendidly in Simon’s hand . . . Then there is the story, the lists, the observations in which he tells us about the bizarre, funny world in which Jesus H Christ lives . . . All this within the tradition surrealism and minimalism, fluxus, where Mel Bochner meets Ed Ruscha . . . But with a dose of English tabloid, that reflects back at you.
