DIKEOU LITERARY SERIES: KHADIJAH QUEEN, ADRIENNE RAPHEL, ALICIA MOUNTAIN, & SARA DENIZ AKANT

The Dikeou Collection presents the twenty-eighth installment of the Dikeou Literary Series on Thursday, May 3, at Dikeou Collection, 1615 California St, Suite 515, from 7-9pm. Please join us for readings by Khadijah Queen, Adrienne Raphel, Alicia Mountain, and Sara Deniz Akant. This event is free and open to the public.
KHADIJAH QUEEN is the author of five books, most recently I’m So Fine: A List of Famous Men & What I Had On (YesYes Books 2017). Earlier poetry collections include Conduit (Akashic / Black Goat 2008), Black Peculiar (Noemi Press 2011) and Fearful Beloved (Argos Books 2015). Her verse play Non-Sequitur (Litmus Press 2015) won the Leslie Scalapino Award for Innovative Women’s Performance Writing. The prize included a full staged production of the play at Theaterlab NYC from December 10 – 20, 2015 by Fiona Templeton’s The Relationship theater company. Individual poems and prose appear or are forthcoming in Fence, Tin House, American Poetry Review, Buzzfeed, Gulf Coast, Ms. Magazine, Poor Claudia, The Offing, jubilat, Memoir, Tupelo Quarterly, Best American Nonrequired Reading, DIAGRAM, The Volta Book of Poets, LitHub, The Force of What’s Possible and widely elsewhere. Reviews of her work can be found in O Magazine, The New Yorker, Rain Taxi, BOMB Magazine, SCOUT, Publishers Weekly, Los Angeles Review, Open Letters Monthly, The Volta, Kenyon Review, Boston Review, and other publications. She serves as core faculty in poetry and playwriting for the new Mile-High MFA in creative writing at Regis University.
ADRIENNE RAPHEL is the author of the poetry collection What Was It For (Rescue Press, 2017), and the chapbook But What Will We Do (Seattle Review, 2016). She has written for the New Yorker online, the New Republic, the Paris Review Daily, Poetry Foundation, Poets & Writers, Slate, and Lana Turner, among other publications. Born in New Jersey and raised in Vermont, Raphel holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and is completing a PhD at Harvard. She is currently working on a book about crossword puzzles.
ALICIA MOUNTAIN’s first collection, High Ground Coward, was selected by Brenda Shaughnessy as a winner of the Iowa Poetry Prize and just recently published by the University of Iowa Press. She is also the author of the digital chapbook Thin Fire, published by BOAAT Press. Mountain is a queer poet, a PhD student, and an assistant editor of the Denver Quarterly.
SARA DENIZ AKANT is an educator, poet and performer. She is the author of Babette (Rescue Press 2015), Parades (Omnidawn 2014), and Latronic Strag (Persistent Editions 2015). Her work has appeared most recently in Paperbag, Gramma Daily, and at the Poetry Foundation. She teaches writing at John Jay College and lives in Brooklyn.The Dikeou Literary Series is currently organized by Ashley Colley, a poet from Ohio. Her poems have appeared most recently in Black Warrior Review, Prelude, jubilat, and New Delta Review. She is a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and currently a PhD candidate in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Denver.
