Staton’s canvas for “Endless Column (apple core)” is not white, but rather dark blue denim where she uses bleach to remove the dye from the canvas. This is how she creates her “anti-paintings.” This inversion of the painting process makes the artist more aware of negative space and creating clear images with a limited color palette. In this month’s workshop, participants will create their own anti-paintings not with bleach, but with stencils and paper cut-outs, which will be painted over to create areas of negative space.
Drop in any time between 12:00 and 4:00 to participate in this workshop. 20-minute guided tours of the collection will be given at 12:15 and 2:00. This workshop is free to attend and no RSVP is required. Light refreshments will be provided.
